The travel of a Great Wine

The travel of a Great Wine

The Tokaj wines have been travelling for centuries. It was a precious nectar that was offered as a gift. The Prince Ferenc Rakoczi II, who reigned over the region, sent it to Louis XIV to earn his confidence. That was the time when the French king declared Tokaj to be “the Wine of Kings and the King of Wines”.

The Poles have played an undeniable role in the marketing of Tokaj, from the XVth century. Why? They liked to drink … Aristocratic families, and major traders of Krakow and Warsaw, made for the following centuries a flourishing trade.

At that time, the wines were aged in cellars in Poland. Szamorodni is a Polish word (it means “as it comes”). We believe Poles have developed this type of wine whose demand was strong when the Polish economy was prosperous. It reminds us the dynamism of the British trade in Bordeaux and Porto…

Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia … The Tokaj Grand Liquoreux Samuel Tinon follows the historical commercial route.
