The aim of the Confrérie is to represent the Tokaj Wine Region and Tokaji wines in Hungary and abroad to reposition Tokaj as the treasure it is. The Confrérie serves as an umbrella organisation for the best of the region’s producers, who believe in terroir and the unique character of these white wines. Most of the founding members of the Confrérie are Tokaj wine producers but membership is open to all friends of wine and professionals who wish to participate in the evolution of the region.

The Confrérie de Tokaj annually organises Tokaj Spring, an exclusive programme around the Great Tokaj Wine Auction of rare and unique contemporary barrel lots that deserve to catch the attention of the most dedicated wine lovers throughout the world. Visitors to this extraordinary auction are offered open cellars, wine tastings, expert presentations and talks, and wine and gala dinners.

For the benefit of the Tokaj landscape: the charitable side of the Great Tokaj Wine Auction. Beyond offering exclusive new Tokaji releases, the aim of the Auction is to help to improve the viticultural landscape of this historic wine region on the slopes of the Zemplén mountains between Abaújszántó, Sátoraljaújhely and Tokaj. Tokaj, a UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Landscape since 2002, has a history stretching back centuries. Four centuries ago it became the first appellation to be designated. It’s undoubtedly one of the great wine regions in the world.

Situated in the north-east of Hungary, 260 kilometres from Budapest, today the Tokaj wine region offers a wide range of styles and expressions of crus, in both dry and sweet wines. Tokaj Spring and its auction is the Confrérie de Tokaj’s most important rendez-vous of the year and gives all wine lovers the opportunity to discover together this richness and the latest creations. The Confrérie also organises lunches once a month to which all the members and wine lovers are invited.

The president of the Confrérie de Tokaj is István Szepsy, the vice president Samuel Tinon and the Grand Maître Dr. Tibor Kovács.
